Getting started
From this page to your first quest in five steps. What you need, how signing in works, and what to expect the first time.
WoW Onchain is vanilla World of Warcraft, patch 1.12.1, played in a browser tab. There is nothing to install. Your Phantom wallet is your account, and every coin you earn is Mithril ($MITH), a token on Solana that mirrors every copper in the game.
What you need
| Requirement | Why | |
|---|---|---|
| Browser | Chrome or Edge 137+, or Firefox 141+ | The client is WebAssembly drawn with WebGPU and uses recent WebAssembly exception handling. |
| Computer | A desktop or laptop with a keyboard and mouse | The 1.12 interface is built for them. Phones and tablets aren't supported. |
| Graphics | Hardware acceleration switched on | WebGPU needs your graphics card. Check Settings, System, Use graphics acceleration. |
| Memory | 8 GB of RAM or more | The game uses about 1.3 GB in a busy zone. |
| Wallet | Phantom | You sign in with it. No SOL and no tokens needed. |
The Play page runs a system check in your browser and tells you, item by item, whether you're ready.
Your first session
- Open the Play page and press Enter World. A loading screen downloads the client, about 12 MB, and then the login screen appears. There's no "click to play" gate and no forced fullscreen.
- Sign in with Phantom. The login screen has one button instead of an account name and password. Phantom shows a sign-in request: a short text message with the site's domain and a one-time code. Approving it is a signature, not a transaction. It costs nothing and moves nothing.
- Pick the realm from the realm list. The page remembers it.
- Create a character. Any race and class from 1.12. Names containing "gm" are reserved.
- Enter World. Your race's starting zone loads, with the intro cinematic (Escape skips it).
Next time, the page skips straight to character select. A sign-in stays valid for about a week on that browser; after that, Phantom asks you to sign again.
The Cartel's First Job
The first time a wallet's first character enters the world, the Mithril Exchange goblin at your starting spot has a job for you: the quest window opens by itself, and you stay put until you take it. Bring him 3 Cartel Markers from the first critters around the start. It takes about a minute and a half.
Every wallet that finishes it gets a Cartel purse. The first 300 wallets become Cartel Founders and get the big one:
| At the turn-in | When that character reaches level 10 | |
|---|---|---|
| Cartel Founders, the first 300 wallets | 200,000 MITH Mithril | 600,000 MITH Mithril |
| Every wallet after them | 5,000 MITH Mithril | 20,000 MITH Mithril |
The turn-in Mithril can go to your wallet straight away. The level-10 Mithril is yours to spend right away too; it can go to your wallet from level 20.
Founders also get their founder number, #1 to #300, and a follow-up, Show me the money: send some Mithril to your wallet, then collect the Cartel Founder's Tabard from any Mithril Exchange goblin.
One purse per wallet, on its first character. The goblin's menu shows how many founder spots are left.
New to crypto? You're a founder too. Any wallet takes a founder spot at the turn-in while spots are left, a brand-new one included: no SOL and no wallet history needed. Every purse is paid like any other Mithril, so it shows up on the public ledger.
How signing in works
There are no passwords on this server. When you approve the sign-in request:
- the sign-in service checks the signature against your wallet's public key, the domain and the one-time code, so a signature can't be replayed on another site or reused;
- it finds the game account that belongs to your wallet, or creates one the first time;
- it hands the game client a one-time password for that account, and the client logs in by itself.
Your wallet address is your identity. Characters, bags and bank belong to the account that belongs to your wallet. If you sign in with a different wallet, you get a different account.
Where your Mithril goes
Every copper you loot, earn from quests or get from a vendor is Mithril: 1 MITH = 1 copper of vanilla's money, so what vanilla called a gold coin is 10,000 MITH. In game you see one number with a Mithril coin instead of gold, silver and copper. Behind the scenes each money change is mirrored onto your game vault on Solana about a second later. You never see a popup while playing.
When you want MITH in your own wallet, talk to a Mithril Exchange goblin beside the bankers and pick 1%, 10%, 25%, 50% or all of it, or any amount (or type .withdraw). It's free and arrives in Phantom within seconds. The details are in Onchain mechanics.
If something goes wrong
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| "WebGPU is required" | Use Chrome or Edge 137+ or Firefox 141+, turn on hardware acceleration, update your graphics driver. |
| "Already open in another tab" | The game runs in one tab per browser profile. Close the other tab and reload. |
| The picture freezes when you switch tabs | Browsers pause hidden tabs. Switch back and it continues. |
| "Your session expired. Sign in with Phantom again." | Your week-long sign-in ran out. Press the button and approve again. |
| Phantom never opens | Unlock Phantom, then press Sign in again. If nothing happens after 30 seconds, a new click starts over. |
| "Login Server Down" | The realm is offline or you lost your connection. Try again in a minute. |
